At The Stackhouse, print quality is not left to chance. Every order we produce follows our 12-Point Inspection Framework, a structured inspection process designed to ensure accuracy, consistency, and professional presentation before any print ships.
What Is the 12-Point Inspection Framework?
The 12-Point Inspection Framework is a multi-stage inspection process performed at key points throughout production.
It combines:
- Automated file validation
- Human-led visual inspection
- Final order verification before shipment
Rather than relying on a single check at the end, quality is verified throughout the process to catch issues early and ensure consistent results.
How the QA Framework Works
The 12-point framework is divided into three phases:
- File & Pre-Print Verification
- Print & Surface Inspection
- Finishing, Packaging & Final Review
Each phase focuses on a specific part of production and is performed by trained print specialists.
When This framework Applies
This inspection framework applies to all print orders produced at The Stackhouse, regardless of size, quantity, or media type. Some products may include additional product-specific checks, but all follow the same core framework.
Phase 1: File & Pre-Print Verification
Before printing begins, files are validated to ensure they are production-ready.
This phase includes:
-
File resolution and size verification
Ensures the file matches the intended print size and is suitable for output. -
Color profile and color space validation
Confirms the file is compatible with our calibrated printing workflow. -
Crop, border, and orientation review
Verifies that cropping, borders, and orientation match the order details. -
Media selection confirmation
Confirms the correct paper or canvas type is selected for the order.
Many of these checks are handled automatically through our upload system and production scripts, with human verification to confirm accuracy.
Phase 2: Print & Surface Inspection
Once printed, each piece is physically inspected under controlled lighting conditions.
This phase includes:
-
Color accuracy and tonal balance
Ensures smooth gradients, neutral tones, and accurate color reproduction. -
Ink density and consistency
Confirms even ink laydown with no banding, streaking, or artifacts. -
Surface integrity inspection
Checks for marks, scuffs, head strikes, or surface defects. -
Edge and border precision
Verifies clean edges, consistent borders, and proper bleed handling.
Phase 3: Finishing, Packaging & Final Review
Before shipment, each order undergoes a final inspection.
This phase includes:
-
Final size and squareness check
Confirms finished dimensions and alignment. -
Finish or coating review (when applicable)
Ensures coatings, laminates, or canvas finishes are applied evenly. -
Packaging and protection check
Verifies that the correct packaging method is used to protect the print during transit. -
Order accuracy and final approval
Confirms the correct image, size, media, and quantity before shipment.
Only orders that meet all requirements are approved to ship.
Human-Led, Not Automated
While automation plays an important role in consistency and efficiency, final quality decisions are always made by people. Experienced print specialists review each order to ensure it meets our standards for accuracy, surface quality, and presentation.
If a print does not meet our standards, it does not ship.
What This Framework Covers
This framework applies to all Stackhouse print products, including:
- Giclée fine art prints
- Photo prints
- Canvas and gallery wraps
- Mounted prints
- Packaged and retail-ready prints
- Mini prints
Why This Matters
Fine art and professional photography demand consistency and care. Small issues in color, surface quality, or finishing can impact how a piece is received or displayed.
The 12-Point Inspection Framework exists to protect:
- Your artwork
- Your reputation
- The final presentation of every print
Common Questions
Does this mean every print is manually inspected?
Automated systems handle many file checks, but final quality decisions are always made by experienced print specialists using human-led visual inspection.
What happens if a print does not pass the inspection framework?
If an issue is found during inspection, the print is corrected or reprinted before shipment so the final order meets our standards.
Does the inspection framework guarantee an exact color match?
We use calibrated, color-managed workflows to ensure consistent and accurate reproduction. However, perceived color can vary between screens and lighting conditions. If you have specific requirements, contact us before ordering for guidance.
