A paper border is unprinted space around your image. It can leave room for signing, matting, framing, or handling. The border is added outside the selected image size, so it increases the final paper dimensions.
Choose a border in the order builder
- Choose the image size and review the crop first.
- Choose the paper or other available media.
- At the Border step, compare the available choices in the preview. On Giclee fine art paper, the current choices are Borderless, 1/4-Inch Border, 1-Inch Border, and 2-Inch Border.
- Check the final dimensions shown below the preview before adding the print to your cart.
How much does a border add?
A 1-inch border adds 1 inch to each side. That increases both the final width and final height by 2 inches. For example, an 8 × 10 image becomes a 10 × 12 sheet. A 1/4-inch border adds 1/2 inch to each final dimension.
Borderless means no extra unprinted paper; the final paper size matches the selected image size. A border does not change which part of the file is cropped. If important content falls outside the crop frame, adjust the crop or choose another image size before selecting a border. See How to Use the Crop Tool.
Which border should I choose?
- Borderless: For an image that should reach the sheet edge.
- 1/4 inch: For a small amount of unprinted space.
- 1 inch: For more room to handle, sign, or frame the print.
- 2 inches: For wider white space and more flexibility with signing or matting.
Check your frame or mat opening and the final sheet size before ordering. Available border choices may differ by product. Gallery-wrap edge choices are a separate decision; see Understanding Border Edge Options: Solid vs. Mirrored. If you need a specific final size, contact us before checkout.
